Laurent Robert's destiny is finally known: he will move down south to Portsmouth for an undisclosed fee. The French winger was very close to signing for Bolton Wanderers, earlier this week.
Bolton offered him his current wage, a 45.000 pounds a week. But Pompey manager Alain Perrin persuaded Robert to sign for Pompey.
The French manager has ambitious plans with Portsmouth in which Robert could play a major part. Robert stated about Perrin: "You can see that the Portsmouth players enjoy their football again since Perrin joined them, that's one of the reasons why I opted to join Portsmouth instead of Bolton, who offered me bigger wages".
Laurent Robert will sign a 3 year deal with Portsmouth and will accept a pay cut.
The Frenchman was allowed to leave Newcastle because of his disappointing displays last season, it was also generally known that Magpies boss Graeme Souness and Robert weren't the biggest of friends.
