Defender Andy O'Brien has today signed for Portsmouth for an undisclosed fee.
After signing for Newcastle four years ago for £1million from Bradford, O'Brien made 172 appearances for the Tyneside club.
The 25-year-old Republic of Ireland centre-back was given permission to discuss a switch, when it was decided that his services were no longer required at St James' Park.
With Aaron Hughes having already left the club for £1m this summer (moving to Aston Villa) it appears that Graeme Souness is keen to sort out his back line.
Belgian international Daniel van Buyten remains a target for Graeme Souness, and youngster Steven Taylor is doing his best to break into the first team ahead of Titus Bramble and Boumsong.
O'Brien will see the familair faces of Andy Griffin and Lomana LuaLua at Fratton Park who are already on the books. It is understood that Laurent Robert will also talk to the club, although a move to Bolton could be more likely.
