Souey Aims High with CL and Premiership Challenge

Daniel Van Buyten, a Newcastle United transfer target, has revealed Graeme Souness wants Newcastle to get Champions League football at the least.

The Belgian defender has had Newcastle make an offer for him, and has spoken with Souness while Hamburg and the Magpies negotiate an offer.

Apparently, Souness is aiming high next year as he rebuilds the team, with maybe 7 players coming in, Champions League Qualification the minimum requirement and saying that Newcastle should be putting pressure on the top teams in the title race.

Many fans may be pleased with Souness’ optimism and ambition, but feel he may be aiming too high for a club who finished 14th last year with just Inter-Toto cup qualification.

Many fans may just be happy with a UEFA Cup spot after a disappointing year, but was it just words used to tempt Van Buyten, or did Souness mean it?

Van Buyten said:

"I have spoken to Graeme Souness and he said that he wants me and five or six others,"

"He [Souness] said that he wants to rebuild and that next season Newcastle are going for the Champions League at least. He also said that Newcastle will even try for the Premier League title.
