Newcastle midfielder Lee Bowyer has thanked Geordie fans for the reception he got when substituted on against Sporting Lisbon.
Lee Bowyer was afraid he would be booed for his part in a fight with team-mate Kieron Dyer.
But in an ironic substitution with Dyer coming off and Bowyer coming on, the ex-Leeds man was given a good reception by the home fans, proving that the incident is behind everybody,
Bowyer said:
"I was delighted with the reception from than fans - it meant a lot to me,"
"When the manager told me I was going on for Kieron, I just thought 'Here we go then, it's 50/50'.
"I honestly did not know what to expect from the fans, and it was obviously a concern to me because the fans are very important and have a right to voice their opinions.
"They know what they are going to get from me in games, and that is 100%. All I asked for was a chance from the fans, and I thank them for giving me that.
"I have apologised all week and I will apologise again because I have let down the club, the fans, the players - everybody really."
