Newcastle United manager Graeme Souness has called for Scottish clubs Rangers and Celtic to push hard for Premiership football. The Scot claims that neither side will 'do well at the highest levels in Europe' unless they play the English game first.

SOUNESS: "Rangers and Celtic are enormous football clubs.

"And I think for them to do well at the highest levels in Europe they have to be playing their football week in, week out in this league down here.

"With the support base both clubs have, they could be a big success. The money that they would generate would enable them to attract top men from other parts of Europe.

"Players want to play in the English Premiership."
