Kluivert Frustrated - More Chelsea Quotes

More reaction from the weekends game against Chelsea. Chelsea put four past the Magpies' to leave Patrick Kluivert frustrated, Lee Bowyer shocked and Greame Souness "shellshocked".

Newcastle had the better fo the first half, and even the better of the start of the second half. It wasn't until Jose Mourinho made what can only be described as inspired substitutions as he brought on Wayne Bridge and Mateja Kezman for Tiago and William Gallas.

It was just 2 minutes later when disaster struck for Newcastle when Drogba headed Claude Makalele's pass into Lampard's path for the England midfield to slot it home. From then on, it was full steam ahead for Chelsea, as Newcastle fell apart.

Kluivert said:

"It was a frustrating afternoon for everyone connected with Newcastle. Before the game, we had a good feeling that we could get something at Chelsea - and even at half-time, we still had that feeling.

"But it was different after the game. I think we have to be realistic though, 4-0 wasn't really a fair result.

"We didn't create many chances apart from a couple of half-chances, and we hardly had a shot at goal all afternoon.

"That needs to change quickly because we can't go on like that. We must forget about this game and spend the next few days making sure we correct our mistakes before we play Portsmouth at home next Saturday."

Bowyer said:

"It's unbelievable. That was never a 4-0 game.

"We more than matched Chelsea for an hour but once that first goal went in that was it.

"They were in control and really they made us look stupid at the end.

"We put everything into it and when you concede goals like we did, it is very disappointing. You try again and they got another one and it just knocks you.

"In the end it was 4-0 and I suppose it could have been a lot more.

"While we did not create that many chances we had a lot of the play.

"They hit us on the break a couple of times and at times I thought Chelsea rode their luck.

"We worked hard in midfield covering each other but it's a game of 90 minutes not 45."

Speaking on the clubs official website, Souness is quoted:

"I'm shellshocked by that game if I'm honest, I feel like I've been hit by a steamroller.

"At half time I felt we had matched them, and we continued that in the first quarter of an hour of the second half.

"But Frank Lampard was given time and space to score the first one, then Titus was outmuscled by Drogba for the second one.

"After that second goal too many of our players started feeling sorry for themselves. They didn't want the ball anymore, and that was disappointing.

"I'm sick with the result. To do so well for an hour and then collapse after thyat is frustrating."
