An entertainment licence has been granted for the new sports bar at St James' Park. The bar, named after Magpies' legend Alan Shearer, is being built under the south stand at the Gallowgate end of the ground and is costing in the region of £2.5 million. It is due to open next week. The Evening Chronicle reported that although the club wanted a licence to allow music and dancing until 1am Monday to Saturday and 12.30am on Sundays at Shearer's Bar, due to open next week, licensing chiefs have reduced the hours the club was seeking following objections by nearby residents - which were backed by local councillors.
Newcastle had wanted a licence to allow music and dancing until 1am Monday to Saturday and 12.30am on Sundays at the bar, but they will have to settle with 11pm Monday - Thursday, 12:30am on Friday/Saturday, and 10:30pm on a Sunday.
