After being sacked by the Magpies, Sir Bobby Robson has the full backing of former Newcastle United defender, Jonathon Woodgate - who believes that the football veteran will make a quick return to the game.

Speaking to Sky Sports News, Woodgate said:

"Everyone got on well. Everyone treated Bobby Robson with the utmost respect for what he has achieved in the game, so it is just paper talk.

"Papers make things up a lot and that was totally untrue.

"He has been absolutely superb for me. He took a chance on me when bringing me in from Leeds.

"After I'd signed (for Real), he called me to wish me all the best and said I could not turn it down, joining the best club in the world, and he wished me every success.

"There is no doubt in my mind he will return and the sooner the better for football.

"I think he is a brilliant manager and a brilliant bloke and he gets the best out of players.

"His enthusiasm is amazing, he is on the pitch with all the players, joining in and passing the ball and he is an example to all 71-year-olds.

"He keeps fit, does everything and he is a top man."
