Middlesbrough boss Steve McClaren has been linked with the vacant Newcastle United job, but has today claimed that he is “very happy at Middlesbrough” and won’t be leaving the club.

McClaren is the bookies favourite for the job, with some offering odds as low as 4-1.

However, speaking from the England camp ahead of England’s World Cup qualifier against Austria, he said:

"Naturally I'm flattered that my name has been linked with such a job, but I'm very happy at Middlesbrough and am not interested in leaving the club.

"We are building something exciting at Middlesbrough and I'm committed to seeing that through.

"Steve Gibson [Middlesbrough chairman] has always given me his full support and has invested in several top-class signings once again this summer.

"We believe we can really build on our Carling Cup success and we have Europe to look forward to."

Bolton have also ruled Sam Allardyce out the running.
