Rooney Toons: United bid £20 million for Wayne!

Skysports is tonight running a story that United have lodged a £20 million bid with Everton for teen sensation Wayne Rooney. If true, it would make Newcastle the first club to have made an official offer for Rooney.

The more cynical amongst Toon fans may view this as a publicity stunt to try and cheer up the fans following the departure of prize asset Jonathan Woodgate last Friday to Real Madrid, but if the deal were to go through then it would be a huge coup for the Toon in the face of alleged interest from Woodgate's new employers, Man United, Chelsea and a host of Serie A clubs.

United have money to spend following the sale of Woodgate, and the signing of Rooney would definitely go a long way to placating the fans were it to go through.

More on this when we get it.

What do you think? Real deal or just a publicity stunt by Fat Fred to get back in wor good books? Feel free to go and discuss it on our message board.
