Many are saying “yes he would be a good buy” and other are saying “but he is 29 now and getting on a bit.”

Do Newcastle United need a player who they will again have to replace in just a few years time? Should we not be looking for a long-term player, rather than spending money will have to spend again not too long after?

Both Middlesborough and Newcastle are battling it out for the Manchester United Midfielder but Newcastle look set to complete the move.

Butt requested a transfer from Manchester united last season and looked set to join Birmingham, however he had a change of heart, which saw him continue at Old Trafford. Being left out of the FA Cup final helped him make his decision to leave.

Newcastle have apparently made a bid of 4M for the England International but some cant help wonder if the money could be better spent elsewhere.
