Contrary to reports in today’s media Olivier Bernard has spoken out about the future of the club and how he sees it.
By the sounds of it Bernard is looking to the future and on how to improve things.
Reports today have claimed that the Frenchman is upset by the way his contract has been dealt with and is considering leave Newcastle United if he is given some certainty.
"I want to stay at Newcastle but the club will not give me what I deserve. I ask them every week what's going on but they keep delaying. I hate it."
Bernard claims that he will wait until his contract expires next year and leave in a Free if talks are not started before June.
Despite this he has spoken out about Newcastle Uniteds defeat against Marseille mid week and believes that the whole team now needs to “focus.”
"There's nothing to play for now but fourth place. We can focus all our efforts on that and really go for it.
We will have to step up away from home and that last game of the season at Liverpool will be vital.
But at least we know what we're playing for. Everybody's focused on taking fourth place and, no matter what anybody says. I think we will do it.
We have to come straight back with a win against Wolves. And a win just won't be good enough - we have to score as many goals as we can.
A big victory is so important if we're going to put this week behind us.
Of course the defeat in Marseille was disappointing. We know that we could have played better football over there, without a doubt.
For the first time in a long time in Europe we didn't do our job like we know we can and we're all devastated. The players are really down and very low. We know that we should be playing in the final. We know that we're good enough. People are thinking about what might have been but it's too late now.
"We didn't deserve anything over there for the way we played. That's all there is to it.
Before the semi-final we believed we deserved to go all the way to Gothenburg because of the way we have performed in Europe.
It was a good opportunity for us and we overcame a number of good teams to get there."
Bernard has become unsettled at St James’ Park before but was persuaded to stay and has had a reasonably good season this season. His efforts would be missed by Newcastle were he to depart from the club.
