CARYS COLUMN

What a Week!

I am predicting that the atmosphere in my house may be a touch frosty this evening with the one and only Newcastle United beating the multibillionaires mega team formally known as Chelsea. The football was good, the tension was painful, and the result was triumphant. It all (the majority) went our way and well it had to really what with Saturday’s results being anything other than useful. I sat and waited for Fulham to draw and for Villa to lose but no such luck and even Liverpool couldn’t manage the norm and miss a penalty!

But that doesn’t matter now because we beat Chelsea.

A lot of people have said to me in the past few days “Bad result in the UEFA Cup Carys” and I couldn’t believe how many people said it! Personally I think that holding Marseille to a goalless draw was a great result. Not conceding an away goal and giving us a great chance for the away game. So we are doing okay.

Today’s game was good though however I panicked when Woodgate went off and Shearer went down – I now dislike Huth immensely and although Robs Styles wasn’t positioned well enough to see the event which saw Shearer briefly leave the pitch I think he let the game run well. The decisions were mostly fair and he wasn’t as extravagant with those colourful cards as he has been in the past.

I can’t forget to mention how well Ameobi played alongside Shearer they worked well and looked strong. Ambrose was as ambitious as ever and played as if he was desperate for a goal (and was unlucky) and Chelsea only regained their flair when Jimmy Floyd Hasslebaink was brought onto the pitch with a face like thunder after being dropped from the starting eleven.

 Until next time.. X
