O'BRIEN TO RETURN

Republic of Ireland defender Andy O'Brien is set to return to the Newcastle United first team on Sunday, as Newcastle take on Aston Villa at Villa Park.

O'Brien played a bench role on Thursday night as the Magpies' defeated PSV Eindhoven 2-1 at St James' Park in the Uefa Cup quarter final, but did make an appearance..

Titus Bramble was forced off near the end due to knee problems, and O'Brien was the man to replace him for the final 15-minutes.

Sir Bobby Robson had plans to rest O'Brien for the clash at Villa Park, in an attempt to counter Vassell's pace, and Robson said:

"Titus got a pretty nasty bang.

I took a risk in playing him because he already had a slight problem, but I wanted to keep Andy O'Brien fresh for Sunday.

"I have no complaints with the way he played."
