HUGO ALOT HAPPIER

"My time with Portugal was extremely positive," said Viana.

"The three days I spent with the senior squad gave me a huge lift and I even managed 10 minutes against England in what was a big game for us back home.

"I haven't been playing much football in Newcastle, so to earn another cap was important for my confidence. It shows I have not been forgotten.

"I worked hard every day to make sure I get another opportunity but in the meantime I must start making more of an impact with United. I didn't get the chance to speak to Mr Scolari about what I must do to keep my place but he spoke positively about me to the press.

"He told the newspapers back home that he still believes in me, he has no problem picking me whether I am playing domestic football or not but that he wants me to force my way into Sir Bobby Robson's side. I was very encouraged by what he said and happier now than I was a few weeks ago."
