SHEARER FOR ENGLAND? AGAIN!

The former England captain was rested for Thursday nights' UEFA Cup tie in Norway, but will return to action on Sunday when Robson and Redknapp go head to head at Fratton Park.

"He's a great player still, Shearer," said Redknapp.

"People are saying he was dropped the other day but that's not the case. They were giving him a rest because Bobby feels tomorrow is more important.

"Rejuvenated? Shearer is rejuvenated every weekend. What a player. He's got 18 goals this season and I for one would like to see him still playing for England.

"Him and [Michael] Owen are our best pairing up front for sure as far as I am concerned. I don't know if he could be persuaded to go back to international football. Only Alan knows that but he would still be a great boost for the European Championships to my mind.

"I would certainly pick him but it is not up to me. That's he job of Sven Goran Eriksson. You talk about Shearer being able to shine in club football because of retiring from internationals but I think he would get 20-odd goals every year in any circumstances.

"He scored a penalty against us up there in October and at 3-0 it was the first serious beating we had taken in the Premiership.

"We are not scared of it tomorrow, though. We are going to give it our best shot, but I don't expect Bobby to do us any favours by leaving out Shearer again."
