VIANA DELIGHTED

Hugo Viana is delighted to have been named in Portugal's squad for the friendly with England next week.

The Newcastle midfielder has recently feared missing out on Euro 2004 altogether due to lack of action with the Magpies' but a rare start for the 21-year-old against Leicester last week proved good enough for Portugal's World Cup-winning manager, Luis Felipe Scolari.

"It feels great to be selected among so many great players again, and I will work hard to make sure I play against England next week," said Viana.

"I felt things went well for me against Leicester, even though I still prefer to play more centrally, and hopefully I will be back in the Newcastle side soon.

"Playing in Euro 2004 means absolutely everything to me - it is hard to explain how proud I would be to pull on a Portuguese shirt in front of my own people this summer."
