TRANSFER NEWS!

Leeds United striker Michael Bridges has signed for Newcastle on a three-month loan deal, after signing on at Elland Road for £5m from Sunderland back in 1999.

Bridges bagged himself 22 goals in his debut season but has since struggled to recapture his best form due to a host of injuries.

The 25-year-old has just one made the starting line-up at Leeds this month and has made five substitute appearances.

This news will be welcomed by Magpies' fans who beleived that thier manager would once again allow the transfer window to close without any new faces at St James' Park.

Meanwhile, United striker Tresor Lomana Lua Lua has joined Portsmouth on loan for the rest of the season after rejecting the chance to go to Elland Road.

The African striker was expected to move to Elland Road as part of the deal that saw Michael Bridges join St James' Park, but Stephen Caldwell has joined Leeds and Lua Lua chose to go to Pompey instead.

Lua Lua was banned from DR Congo's final match of the African Cup of Nations so has been able to return to England in order to seal a move to the Fratton Park based club.
