24-year-old Bellamy has not played since the 1-0 win over Southampton early last October, but managed to play the full 90 minutes against the Everton reserves on Monday.

Despite playing on a heavy pitch, and Sir Bobby Robson worried about how that could affect his player, he made it through the game showing no signs of discomfort.

Reserve manager Tommy Craig said: "Bobby thought the pitch could be detrimental to his fitness.

"And we said to Craig to come off if he got to the point where he was too tired. But he was keen to play on and, to get a full 90 minutes under his belt, is a real bonus for Bobby.

"Craig showed great pace and touch."

Bellamy has had five knee operation in the last couple of years, and is uncertain whether or not he will even be considered for the weekend’s Premiership clash with Birmingham City.
