BRUCE FOR MANAGER

"The People" said today that Birmingham City boss Steve Bruce is Newcastle United's Number 1 choice to takeover from current manager Sir Bobby Robson at the end of the season.

Newcastle have reportedly identified several potential candidates to succeed Sir Bobby Robson (71-year-old) who may be asked to step down this summer after four years at St James' Park.

Bruce is top of the list after taking Birmingham into the Premiership two seasons ago. The Newcastle board are impressed by the Geordie.

Robbie Savage last week hinted that Bruce's future was already uncertain amongst players - and Sir Bobby Robson's position is under pressure at St James' Park - although the Magpies' have recently started picking up points again.
