NO VILLA BID

Newcastle United have not received and bids or approachs from Aston Villa regarding Peruvian winger Nolberto Solano, according to Sir Bobby Robson himself.

There has been speculation in Birmingham that Nobby Solano is Villa's top January transfer target, Magpies' manager Robson insists that he has heard nothing from Villa Park - and that he is not looking to sell Solano.

"I haven't spoken to David O'Leary [Villa's manager] at all and no-one here has heard anything from anyone else at Villa," said Robson.

"I'm not looking to sell Nobby Solano anyway. He's a top-class player who is still very much in my plans.

"Of course, every player has his price, but I fully expect Nobby to still be here in February."
