Newcastle United boss Sir Bobby Robson has admitted that he was happy with the point earned from the goalless draw against Charlton at The Valley on Saturday afternoon. Charlton boss Alan Curbishley was also full of praise for Given.
GIVEN PRAISED
A great display by Shay Given kep the highflying Addicks at bay, and Robson said:
"He is fantastic, no question about that. He is on a good contract and is an important member of our defensive rearguard.
"He is a fine keeper and made one or two fantastic saves which ended any hopes Charlton had of winning."
Charlton boss Alan Curbishley was also full of praise for Given, although he added the wastefulness of Jason Euell in front of goal also played a part.
He said: "I'll have to see a tape of the match before I give a proper opinion, but my first impression is that we did make some great chances and I'm disappointed not to finish with the win.
"But it wasn't a boring 0-0 match. We needed to score but Shay made some great saves, although perhaps there were a few bad misses from us.
"We got into some cracking positions but over-complicated things in the final third. But it's good that we've held a side as good as Newcastle to a draw."
