ROBSON CONFRONTED THE REF

Newcastle United winger Nolberto Solano has dismissed suggestions that he is going to be used as bait as part of a Newcastle swoop for Barcelona striker Patrick Kluivert.

Nobby, who is understandably unhappy about his lack of first-team action in recent weeks, was again left on the bench at the weekend as Newcastle went down 5-0 at Chelsea.

Suggestions of him moving to Spain in an exchange deal for Kluivert will come to nothing, according to Solano - since the Dutch striker does not want to come to the North East.

SOLANO SAID: "I've heard the rumours saying Barcelona want me, but nobody has spoken to me about it.

"I know that there is talk that I would go to Barcelona as payment for the transfer of Kluivert, but the problem is that he doesn't want to come.

"For that reason, I'm under no illusions. People talked about me going to Real Madrid and nothing happened."

Solano was speaking to Peruvian radio programme 'Show del Veco' when he added: "I have a good contract with Newcastle and I want to respect it.

"I don't have any problems with Sir Bobby Robson. All I want to do is show that I still have something to offer here."
