THE SUN reported today how Gary Speed watched England’s World Cup win over Wales in bed with Newcastle United skipper Alan Shearer.

Speed and team-mate Shearer were rooming together before Sunday’s 5-0 defeat at Chelsea and the pair took the option of a lie-in for the quarter-final clash between their rugby union counterparts Down Under.

Speed revealed: “I watched the rugby with a former captain of England — in bed. Well, we were in separate beds!”

Speaking about the Chelsea game, Speed said: “We got hammered. At least I have a chance to put one over the Russian! We are very confident.”
