With the news that we are set to make another two signings in the next 24 hours Nottingham Forest’s young centre half Jamaal Lascelles and keeper Karl Darlow are expected to join, all be it briefly as the will promptly return to Forest on a year’s loan our current requirement for the summer will rise to 8 permanent and one loan.

This after 18 months of nothing, you can be forgiven for thinking, it’s about time, however ambition being lacking during the entire reign of Mike Ashley you do have to wonder if this actually represents a change of direction.

Thinking positive for a moment, we are unquestionably stronger than last year, although I am not caught up in the talk of a Champions League qualification; I think we need to spend an awful lot more before we can consider that.

I would be lying to say I am not pleased with this summer, of course I am, delighted in fact. And if talk of another striker is true I will be over the moon.

However there is a cynical side of me that says ‘have we actually spent anything above what we have already recouped from the sales of Cabaye and Debuchy?

Has the sky money been touched or is it still lying in the bank?

Anyway that aside, is it really a return to ambition, a hope that we can push and win something? Or at least compete in a cup, or is it simply that the dreadful run of form and the threadbare squad actually made someone see sense, and the panic over relegation and the loss of Sky TV money, forced them into action.

Either way, we are better off for it, just let’s not get carried away; we have still in real terms spent very little if anything.

i know its just paper talk and i dont think there was an official statement stating this but one of the reasons Kinnear was sacked was for not being able to finalise the deals, Lee Charnley has taken this on now, maybe he is the difference.We bought 7 players during Llambias' final full transfer window.

Having said that i think those 7 acquisitions were definately due to the threat of relegation and hopefully the club have learned about strenthening at the right time and not just due to the threat of relegation.
