Newcastle United currently have a host of absent players, and Manager Alan Pardew is hoping the break this weekend will see a couple back to face Stoke City a week tomorrow. Pardew already had long term absentees, Hatem Ben Arfa (broken leg), Dan Gosling (knee) and Alan Smith (ankle), whilst Stephen Ireland was aiming to return against Stoke.

But Jonas Gutierrez, Joey Barton (thigh) and Jose Enrique (hamstring) are also unlikely to feature after pulling up with injuries last weekend.

Also sidelined for the Everton game were Nile Ranger and Sol Campbell, both having picked up problems in training.

Pardew told nufc.co.uk;

"Life could be better because the injury front is not looking too good this week. But we've got a chance of having a physical and mental rest, and then we'll start for Stoke on Monday, when I hope to have a couple more bodies around me."

Regarding who will start against Stoke he said;

"We will just have to wait and see really. By Wednesday of next week I really need to know whether people are going to train on Thursday.

I am going to pick the team on Thursday. In recent weeks we have been trying to get players through Thursday and Friday to be able to play on Saturday and it hasn't worked for us.

So we will now nail our team down on Thursday morning and go with it, whatever it is."

So Gosling is now officially "out indefinitely."

The last two windows, we've spent 8M on two players who will have made 6 appearances between them at the end of the season. Ironic, innit?

Didn't we end up having to pay compensation for Gosling? 3.5M or something like that? Not saying he isn't worth it, just too bad he hasn't been able to make an impact this season.
