Match Preview/Stats/Thread: Manchester City v Newcastle Utd

By Tyne-Talk
October 2 2010

Newcastle United travel to The City of Manchester Stadium for tomorrows lunchtime kick off. Both sides have had recent wins over Chelsea, but City will host on the back of a midweek draw, whilst Newcastle lost to Stoke last weekend at St James’ Park.

Chris Hughton’s side have three wins, two defeats and one draw from the last six games, whilst Mancini’s men have three wins, one defeat and two draws from their last six games in all competitions.

Newcastle continue to be without Steve Harper (collarbone), Dan Gosling (knee), Danny Simpson (ankle), Leon Best (ankle), Steven Taylor (shoulder) and Danny Guthrie (knee) all of whom are carrying long term injuries.

Jonas Gutierrez will be hoping for a first team spot this weekend after coming on as a sub against Stoke and Sol Campbell has overcome a thigh problem.

The match will be huge test for Joey Barton’s new found calmness, with City fans likely to boo him as they did in 2009 prior to him leaving the pitch with an injury.

City are without Wayne Bridge (thigh), Pablo Zabaleta (hamstring), Mario Balotelli (knee), Micah Richards (hamstring) and Aleksandar Kolarov (ankle). Jerome Boateng could be rested in a bid to gently ease him back from injury, but Joleon Lescott who returned from a groin injury in midweek and made the bench, could feature.

Fact: Manchester City are unbeaten in their last 7 games against Newcastle, having won 5 of them.

Fact: Newcastle’s last win over Manchester City was back in 2000 when Alan Shearer scored the winner.

Fact: Newcastle are 1 win away from their 250th league win. A feat only managed by 6 clubs so far.

I am going for a 2-2 draw, the toon set up is better for away games and think Carroll will get a goal

f*cking brilliant!

3 minutes in and the ref is looking dubious. 1 player on oxygen and being taken off.

Gonna be dirty/

2-1 johnson.

Lets bring Carroll on and get him scoring. Ameobi hasn't really made a huge impact. Shame because today was his opportunity.

result almost feels like nothing now, considering the injury - I wasn't expecting to get anything out of the game so the injury is the worst.

He's man of the match because the ref isn't eligible...

Seems like the standard of referee is better in the Championship..

So is it ankle or leg for Ben Arfa?

The 'expert' commentator on the Fox Sports feed David something, who is a massive knob mind, said that it wasn't that serious because quote, "He didn't bang his hand on the ground in pain after he got tackled".

No @#$%& that is what he said. Honestly that is probably the stupidest sentence I have ever heard while watching sport.

So apparently Aaron Ramsey didn't break his leg.. Someone should tell him.

Hughton pretty much just confirmed it is a broken leg. Now to determine the severity of it

More bad news. It's been a rough two weeks. Hopefully we can use the international break to regroup, get healthy and get a much needed result against Wigan.

The trouble with playing the matches early, is that your whole blooody day's ruined.

Supposedly the ref was sh@t, so a bit gutted we were cheated rather than losing on a fair game.

Unlucky for Arfa and Colo, and hopefully both will come back stronger
