Toon Turn Down Beye Bid

Hull City boss Phil Brown has confirmed he has lodged a bid with Newcastle United for unsettled defender Habib Beye. Beye, who joined Newcastle in 2007 has made it clear he is unhappy at the club and is keen move back into the Premier League, but Newcastle have rejected Hull's initial approach.

Phil Brown told the Hull Daily Mail;

"We've gone as far as a bid for Habib Beye, but it was received negatively. However, we're awaiting discussions at the Newcastle end with regards to the possibility of him moving.

There is some mileage in it yet, but what we're dealing with at Newcastle is an unknown quantity. We don't know who is going to be the manager and what players that new man would want. We're in the dark a little bit at the minute."

The Senegalese International who has a year left on his contract with Newcastle initially expressed a desire to stay and help push the club back into the top flight, however the club has made no attempt to reassure players over the summer months resulting in more and more players, including Beye choosing to leave.

It would be a shame for him to go, but if the money was right, then if he wants to go and you can't blame him then I would sell him

He'll be sold. He's good enough to attract bids that won't be turned down. Hull's trying to lowball us. A real PL club will buy him.

Keep him 100% play him CB and make him captain.

Also the money would never be right to get rid of him, he is too old to demand a decent fee. Any money we got off him would never be able to buy a better replacement.

Did he hand in a transfer request today? Saw somehwere that he did but haven't seen an actual news story on it.

He may be getting up there in age, but he's a talented fullback proven in the PL, which are hard to come by. He's no older than Belletti, for example.

Beye put in a written transfer request after he was involved in a dressing room bust-up with Alan Smith after the 6-1 defeat at Leyton Orient.
