Shearer Injury Worries

Newcastle midfielder Alan Smith is struggling to be fit for Monday's home tie with Middlesbrough. The 28 year old picked up a thigh injury against Liverpool last weekend and is said to only have a 50% chance of being fit; should he not make it he will be the 2nd midfielder manager Alan Shearer has lost in the last week after Joey Barton was sent off in the match on Sunday.

Shearer said of the injury concern;

"Alan Smith is going to be touch and go.

He took a blow to the thigh at Liverpool and that's bled inside, so it is going to be touch and go whether he is fit.

We'll be hoping that Alan's OK, but there's Danny, Kevin and Nicky."

Smith isn't Shearer's only injury worry. Jose Enrique is struggling to regain his fitness after suffering with a hamstring injury and whilst Steven Taylor has returned to training from an ankle injury he is unlikely to play 90minutes.

Striker, Obafemi Martins has also said that he is playing through the pain barrier after confirming that he requires another bout of surgery on his groin at the end of the season.

I assume that Guthrie and Nolan could come in for Smith and we won't miss much, i want to see Guthrie play anyway. Enrique still out so Duff plays LB unfortunatly. I imagine that Steven Taylor will try and play through the pain, thats a good thing.
