Newcastle's 22 year old striker Xisco, real name Francisco Jimenez Tejada, has pleaded with the club for a chance to play and show what he can do. The former Deportivo La Coruna player has made just 3 starts since his arrival in the summer and is desperate for pitch time.

Now fit after suffering from injury he told the Newcastle Evening Chronicle;

"I came here to be a success in the Premier League, and do well for what I still see as a big club.

I have not been too lucky. I have not had a chance when I have been fit, and then when I had a chance I became injured.

That is football - it is my job. I had a groin injury, and I have had problems with my hamstring. Then came the broken toe.

When I came off the pitch my toe was inflamed and then I discovered the next day it was broken.

At this moment, the manager has not given me any chances to play, and I have to respect that and keeping working. I have to wait for an opportunity.

I want to play every game, but it is true every player wants to play in the big games against big teams. I am not thinking about these games - I am just thinking about recuperating my toe. I want it to get better as soon as possible.

It is not my decision. I work and train every day for every chance. Then the manager has the choice. I work hard in training every day to earn some chances, but it is the decision of the manager.

I have not played too much, and I am still desperate to show my best football. It is not easy when you are not playing, but it is OK. I have to work more, and then wait for one chance.

From the first week here I have felt comfortable with this football, and I hope we will get better in the following weeks, months and years. You have to feel fit to feel good, and I have been injured.

I have not been 100 per cent, and there has been no continuity. It is no good for me, and nobody wants to be injured.

I am happy with the people, the city, the supporters and the team - everything here. It is OK. My life is fantastic - I do not have any problems. I just want to play football for Newcastle."

The lad definitely seems committed from what he has said here and from what very very little I have seen him play. Unfortunately there are many things working against him such as the 8 or whatever amount of strikers we have. He has had little experience in what is probably the best league in the world and there are only so many games left and we need fit players with the experience to deliver. I do think he can form a good link with Martins though and I think it would work out great. I can see him doing very well here and becoming a good player for the Toon. Unfortunately I think it will have to wait until next season and maybe we will see some of it at the end of this season and it will add a spark to next year. But for right now we can only hope he plays hard in training and can get the start which will ignite a great partnership with him and Martins and we can feel comfortable saying bye to Owen in the summer.

Personally I think he's a good player. I think he should be the current third choice behind Owen and Martins. Once we get rid of Ameobi, Carroll, Smith, Viduka and Owen he'll get some games. I hope we're not comparing Xisco to Luque in a few years because he looks promising.

May as well give him a shot as we'll never make any significant portion of our fee back unless he performs. I really haven't seen enough of him to have any sort of opinion, though.
