Hughes Unconvincing As He Denies Given Bid

The battle for Shay Given has began with the rumour mill in full swing and comments flying from both clubs denying a bid has been made. Manchester City are alleged (by the Daily Mail) to have put an £8million bid on the table for the Newcastle United goalkeeper who has served 11 years at the club. However City manager Mark Hughes has denied any knowledge of a bid being made and Newcastle manager Joe Kinnear remains adamant that the 32 year old, who has four years remaining on his current contract, is going nowhere.

Unfortunately for Newcastle United fans Hughes one line response to the rumours failed to have a great impact; he was quoted saying;

"No, I don't think there has been an offer for Shay Given."

If a bid is made it is likely to spark the interest of Tottenham Hotspur who have also been linked with Given over recent weeks. For Kinnear though, owner Mike Ashley's desire to sell players to generate the cash for new arrivals could put the club in an awkward position forcing them to sell at least one of their key assets.

What do I think? I think I'll be glad when the Transwer Window finally closes and we have stopped finding endless ways to discuss the same old things:

Who's coming, who's going, who's staying?

Who shouldn't be bought or sold?

Will the price we get for our sold players be enough?

Will we pay more than we should for new players?

Who's good, who's rubbish?

Is our squad going to be big enough?

Who's making the decisions?

and all those rumours, rumours rumours.

All part of the fun really. [:wor kid:]

ditto.

But hey, us haters would still hate and the lovers would have a fist full of excuses.

We shall see.
