Newcastle United's 19 year old striker Andy Carroll was arrested last week for an assault on a woman in the city. Reports claim that Carroll accepted a caution for the assault after being removed from the scene by police officers and questioned at the station. The club has been hit by a string of bad press in recent months with Joey Barton being the main culprit hitting the headlines. This latest incident comes as the club is in freefall with owner Mike Ashley looking to sell, the fans frustrated at the management crisis, a caretaker manager in post with no indication of respite in the near future and two successive defeats.
A police spokesperson for Northumbria Police said:
"On Sunday, September 14, police were called to the Pudding Chare at 2.26am, to a report that a woman had been assaulted.
Officers attended and a 19-year-old man was arrested and later accepted a police caution for assault."
