Barton Quizzed By Police Once More

Newcastle United's Joey Barton has been questioned by police who are investigating whether another offence has been committed by the 26 year old after a tabloid newspaper reported images of him running a red light. It took two patrol vehicles to stop Barton at the club's training ground yesterday & no doubt at least one set of officers whose resources could have been put to better use else-where.

The Northumbria Police Force's official statement reads: "We are investigating whether an offence has been committed."

At the time of the incident Barton was on his way to a probation meeting and is alleged to have undertaken several cars by using a bus lane to cut short his journey. His agent Willie McKay hinted he felt his client was being hounded and said when informed of the incident:

"Why are they following him? It is a disgrace. What would you do if people followed you in a car?

What is the guy meant to do? He doesn't know who is in the car, does he?"

There has been an immediate link in the press between this incident and a driving offence several years ago (2005) in which Barton broke a pedestrian's leg after running him over at 2am in Liverpool.

Barton has been a regular customer to the local Magistrates court this year after being prosecuted for several offences.

This seems to be the only sort of news this club generates these days: bad, and not directly football-related...(Sm16)

I jumped a red light in Blyth a few weeks ago - we've all done it (Sm154)

Yes, I've seen the footage of Barton in the "no-car" lane but weren't the reporters following him also in the lane?
Will they be questioned too?
