Shearer To Make Comeback After Pearson Departure

Former Newcastle United striker and Ambassador to the club, Alan Shearer may be returning to Tyneside after the departure of Nigel Pearson earlier today. Shearer who was originally linked with the managerial role after Sam Allardyce left the club, and has since been linked as Keegan's new Number 2 said earlier in the month that he would not be coming to the club.

Pearson took over from Allardyce early January as caretaker manager, while Mike Ashley and Chris Mort considered their options for a permanent manager.

He watched his side lose spectacularly to Manchester United and then win against stoke and progress to the next round of the FA Cup, a match completely overshadowed by Keegan's arrival at the club.

The 44 year old (pictured above in his playing days against Shearer), became Glenn Roeder's assistant in 2006 and took the caretaker role when he departed. Now after just over a year at the club he has decided to leave.

Sky Sports News have reported that Shearer looks set to join the club, firstly by doing some part time training.

Keegan has supported this view in the following statement:

"I believe Alan has come and said that at the moment it is difficult for him to come into the club. He can't come in as No 2 because of his commitments and Alan is very much the same as myself in that if you can't do something properly then it's best to not do it at all.

What we have agreed is that he is going to come in training with us to start off with and then we are going to revisit it later when the commitments that he's made to other people are no longer in place.

I think some of his TV work and other stuff pretty much run out this summer so we will re-visit it. So the door is left absolutely wide open.

It's up to Alan and myself to come up with the right solution, if that's the right word, to his situation coming in here. I've left the door wide open because I respect him and know that he would bring something to the party."

Shearer announced just last week he did not want to take a role at Newcastle, but put a stop to the rumours suggesting he had snubbed Keegan.

"He (Keegan) basically told me I could come in as his assistant or in any role I wanted but the timing is just not right,

I have not snubbed anyone or anything like that. The last thing they would need is another dominant personality, another name. It needs one personality driving things forward and that is Kevin Keegan. It needs to be his way and, if it is, I think he can turn things round.

Myself and Kevin were just too similar personalities, we are both opinionated. We are both single-minded and have our own ideas on how things should be done. That is not the best mix. So for plenty of reasons I had to say no. He has told me that if I have a spare day and fancy coming down to join in training, teach the kids, or just have lunch I can - and I will."

However the current reports suggest that his Part Time coaching role may be more official than suggested last week.

Shearer was a good player no doubt. But he had a few years in him but the only reason he re-tired was because he wanted to leave as a legend nt as a failor. Plz vote on my poll see wot your point of view iz bud seya

...people should let it f'ckin lie for 5 minutes...we're always talking change and what's wrong...some of the concern is more caused by media then fan base...we have to get the points in end of season and get things together...

I wouldn't be unhappy if Shearer had no part to play for 3 years...

He should teach Smith and Oba how to finish. That would be useful-in all seriousness.
