Arsene Wenger's superstars host Newcastle United FC today on the back of a midweek thrashing by fellow Londoners Tottenham Hotspur. Spurs put 5 goals past them this week as they soared into the final of the Carling Cup, knocking Arsenal out.
Arsenal who will see the FA Cup as an attainable piece of silverwear will have a point to prove today as Newcastle manager Kevin Keegan steps up for his 2nd game in charge.
Not only did arsenal score less goals in the week but they also took to fighting amongst themselves leading Emmanuel Adebayor to make a formal apology this week for squaring up to fellow striker Nicklas Bendtner.
Of the FA Cup Wenger said:
"We want to do well in the FA Cup. At the moment, there is no choice to make - we want to bounce back after the disappointment of Tuesday night
When I will be in a situation where I have to choose between the FA Cup, the championship or the Champions League, I will prioritise the two other competitions.
At the moment, the FA Cup is the next game, and we want to win the next game.
It is difficult, but you focus on winning the first match, which then might help you win the second one because you have a psychological edge."
Keegan has also given a prematch interview and has issued a warning to the Arsenal players:
"We are going there to play them - you might think that's all I ever do.
Trust me, if I thought it was right to go there and defend and block everybody behind the ball and try to have a backs-to-the-wall, 90-minute goalless draw, I would do it.
But during my days at Liverpool, I learnt that if a team gave us 90 minutes to attack them in their half, one of us, with the ability we had, would open them up somewhere and create chances, or it might just be a deflection.
We are going to play. That's what we will do and we will see how it goes."
yeah i was not expecting a win before kick off but after the first half though we may nick a goal and maybe get a replay and a own goal was a bit of a bad way to finish and 3-0 flatters the gooners yes they where better but not by that margin
I thought we played quite well in the first half. much better to watch with the defenders noticeably passing short to the midfield on the deck. something alien under allardyce there was far less punt it up.
duff was causing problems every time he got the ball. nzogbia looked good again and cacapa for once did well. all chances coming from good wing play and crosses and even smiths off the line came from a corner. pretty even, arsenal not playing particularly well but given having to make a few good saves from an eduardo volley and another he tipped over
second half was very poor totally different team just looked off the pace and completely outclassed by arsenal. fitness seemed to be lacking??
i dont understand why jose enrique was taken off,who was solid, for rozenhall with 10 mins to go, totally lost shape when he and duff were taken off with 10 minutes to go, poor subs. he was still running about more than most and looked the biggest threat. when he was replaced all chance of a newcastle fightback looked impossible. and so it prooved
pretty dissapointing second half performance completely outclassed by a weakened arsenal team (although we are too)
all this prooves is arsenal reserves are better than newcastle reserves
