Reports coming through suggest that Newcastle United FC are set to make an OFFICIAL approach to Portsmouth manager Harry Redknapp tomorrow morning.
Earlier today Redknapp claimed to know nothing about an imminent approach.
"I really do not know anything about this, I have not spoken to anyone from Newcastle. When I saw Sam had left, my immediate thoughts were that Alan Shearer was a certainty to take over.
There's nothing in my being linked with the job, I had an offer not so long ago to take over at what I consider a massive club but I didn't go. I am happy down on the south coast."
Michael Owen has praised Harry Redknapps managerial skills:
"I've come across him once or twice on the horse racing front. Obviously I've had more to do with his son, Jamie, over the years, but Harry is a very good manager who has done fantastically well in lots of places. None more so than the place where he's at now [Portsmouth]. He's really dragged them up and they are a big force to be reckoned with now. He's done a fantastic job.
You've got the play the cards that you are dealt, in a way. He probably hasn't had massive backing at any of the clubs he's been at over the years, so he's had to do that, but I'm sure that if you gave him a lot of money to spend, then he would spend it wisely as well. Some people have got that knack. He's had to wheel and deal and been very successful at it."
Speaking of his departure Allardyce said today:
"I think when people make a decision, there is nothing you can do about it. There is no point being bitter and twisted about it because that will only affect you. It will not affect the people you have left, so for me it is disappointing, but you have to move on with your life.
I still don't know why it happened, to be honest. You can only ask Chris [Mort, the Newcastle chairman] that question."
I said in an earlier post my local bookie told me thousands had been put on Redknapp, he also said it was an inside tip. its all horse wispers but aparantly ashley offerd him the job a month ago with a private jet daily so he wouldnt have to move from the south coast. watch this space
Hmm he definately is a good manager, and if you want british with experience, which is what the newcastle camp / press are claiming then I doubt they can go far wrong.
Which top honors in football has Harry Redknapp ever won????
I do admit Pompey are an exciting team to watch now, but yet again he is not the calibur of manager i want at the club. However after watching pompey this season, I would be willing to give him a chance at Newcastle. But i reiterate, we should be appointing a manager who has won trophies at the highest level if we truly want success.
And well done on being the first to get this news on the web Carys.

I cant help but feel that Redknapp would not be coming if he was not going to get backing in the transfer market at the end of the day why would you!! pompey are a much better side than us right now!
I think he believes he can become the big British manager who wins things that this nation craves if he comes here just as Sam did!!!! at least this would be Ashleys Appointment & not Sheps
Little Micky He's really dragged them up and they are a big force to be reckoned with now. He's done a fantastic job.

Does this sound familiar? It should; it's exactly what was said about Allardyce. And I have the same feeling about it this time around. I'm not very impressed with Redknapp. He's won nothing, and he's never shown he can handle a large transfer fund. The best finish he's guided a side to is 5th. Sound familiar?
If he comes in, I'll support and he should be given time. But I wouldn't honestly have a lot of confidence in his ability to improve the team.
Give me a manager whose teams consistently show the ability to pass on the floor, keep possession and retain their shape and regularly contend for silverware. I'm done with getting excited over anything less.
i like how i mentioned last night long befor todays papers were reviewed about the private jet situation which is all over todays papers. reliable gossip for once haha
I'm also particularly uninterested in managers who can't be bothered to live near the teams of which they're in charge. Also seems like the kind of thing that will help to alienate Toon supporters...
The only good thing about Redknapp as manager is we may see Louise every once in a while!
He's on bail don't forget, the same as our star midfielder!
Gawd bless the Queen Mum
