Stand-a-thon

My name is Nick Raynor and I am the main publisher on TyneTalk. Before I go to university to study medicine, I am doing some voluntary work, and need your help.

In 2001, an estimated 900,000 children in Kenya had been orphaned by AIDS and HIV-related diseases. With 15% of the population carrying the virus, an increasing number of children are at risk of being caught in the wake of the epidemic. Also, a Red Cross Hospital in Japan is understaffed and relies on the support of volunteers to keep it running.

Many community projects, including the one I will be working on, rely solely on the support of volunteers, and without them, the level of support especially for the children in Mombassa, get goes thin. I will be travelling to Kenya with an organisation known as ‘i-to-i’, which specialises in bringing voluntary support to areas where it is needed most (see www.i-to-i.com for details) and to Japan I will travel with GAP Activity Projects (see www.gap.org.uk for details) which help young people gain valuable life experience, whilst helping those in need.

My next fundraiser is a Stand-a-thon, and you can find more details on this at www.nicksgapyear.co.uk. For just £1 you can win a DVD player and DVD of your choice, whilst helping a good cause.

Thank you

Nick
