Newcastle United have finally won some silverware - the 2006/07 Intertoto Cup!
Following the completion of the UEFA Cup group stage on Thursday, Auxerre - the last remaining club in the competition to have come through the Intertoto Cup apart from ourselves - were eliminated by Livorno, who won 1-0 courtesy of a Lucarelli goal.
This means that Newcastle United are now the only team remaining out of all those who originally entered the competition back in July.
The official Intertoto Cup website confirmed that "There is not yet an official UEFA Intertoto Cup Winner 2006. The best performing team(s) of those 11 will be named UIC Winner 2006 and will receive the usual UEFA Intertoto Cup trophy."
As a result, Newcastle are the Intertoto Cup winners!
