Newcastle United manager Glenn Roeder has paid tribute to Amady Faye who has left Newcastle to join Charlton for £2 million.

Faye was signed by Souness for £1.5 million but the central midfielder did not show he had the talent to make it on Tyneside.

Instead, he has left to join up with new manager, Iain Dowie, at Charlton.

The Newcastle team is already packed with midfielders such as Dyer, Milner, Solano, Emre, Parker, Butt, N’Zogbia, Duff, and a possible move for Thomas Gravesen which would have left Faye struggling to get a place on the bench.

Glenn Roeder has paid tribute to the professionalism of the Senegalese international and thanked him for his work on Tyneside.

Roeder said:

“He hasn't given me any problems whatsoever, but I just felt that, with the midfielders we have at the club, it was best not to stand in his way with him being offered the chance of more regular football.

"I hope he enjoys a good career at Charlton, though obviously not in the two games against us.

"I must say that Amady has been a model professional for me since I have been in charge

"He was at our game with Villarreal at the weekend, and before he went down to London I wished him all the best for when the transfer went through."
