Tavano to hold talks with Newcastle - agent

Newcastle have been linked with more strikers than any other club in Europe, if not the entire world. Literally one new name surfaces every day, and one of the more recent names - Francesco Tavano - seems to have some substance.

"A meeting about Francesco between Newcastle and Empoli has been scheduled," said Tavano's agent, Stefano Guercini.

Whilst it may merely be his agent trying to drum up some interest for his client and get clubs moving, there may also be some truth to the link. Perhaps Tavano is being looked at by Roeder after all.

It must be said that Tavano, scorer of 19 goals last season for Empoli in Serie A, does not seem to fit Glenn Roeder's recent comments about the kind of players he wants to bring to the club, for Tavano does not have Premiership experience and would be a seemingly a fairly costly import, being priced around £7m if media reports are to be true.

I personally doubt there is any truth in the story, but the fact that his agent has come out and said we will hold talks is food for thought, to say the least.
