Speaking after the match last night Trapattoni spoke of how difficult the game was and Richard Dunne tells us that he is disappointed not to have picked up all 3 points

Last night in Bari the Irish pulled off a 1-1 draw that could prove to be vital as the race to the World cup hots up.

Republic of Ireland currently stand 2nd in the table 2 points behind Italy in the table and 5 points ahead of Bulgaria who have a game in hand over us,We now face a critical game in Bulgaria on June 6th.

Great credit goes to Ireland for coming from behind last night against Italy who defended like world champions for the majority of the game, after the game Ireland's manager Trapattoni had this to say......"Italy have the best defenders in the world, but we worked very hard,we changed many situations during the match.....we changed players and our system and we deserved the goal"

"It was important that we didnt lose and we contine without having lost any World cup match so far,It was a very difficult game when Itlay defend so strongly with ten men against our eleven"

"I am Italian but I am the manager of ireland and it was important for me to show everybody in italy that Ireland have a good team too"

Richard Dunne who was once again a rock at the heart of the irish defence said..."We're disappointed not to have won but the way the game when it was good to get a draw,Once they had taken the lead it was always going to be very hard to break them down as they are a very good side"

"We came here tonight believing we are as good as them and we had enough chances to win. They settled faster than us and took advantage but the manager made some changes and they paid off"

"He (Trapattoni) helped us to adapt when Italy went down to 10 men,he has huge experience and that is a big advantage for us"
