Speculation: James Perch to Newcastle? Let him go!

Newcastle United have always struggled defensively in the Premiership and look set to continue that tradition with the arrival of James Perch on Tyneside. We give our verdict amidst speculation that the North-East club are looking to make a bid for the player.

Whilst we are not currently in a position to confirm or deny these reports, we do wonder just why Newcastle would see Perchy as a player that could cut it in the English top-flight. A decent squad player for a Championship team, James Perch has often been described as "versatile" which basically means he struggles to hold down a regular position.

Keeping Perch on at The City Ground would certainly do us no harm, however we at TRENTSIDE are of the opinion that should a decent bid come in for the central defender/midfield/striker/goalkeeper/left-back, (that's enough of that) we should let him go!

 

UPDATE: Reports confirmed, he is off.

Just wondering where his main position is?

Having never seen him play I was going to ask whether you thought he'd be any good in the Premiership as well, but I think the article cleared it up. I thought he was your captain?

His main position is apparently right-back. He literally never plays there however.
I somehow doubt he can make the grade in the Prem unfortunately.
What I would say is that he does have leadership abilities, and so his positive influence was enough to justify captaincy. Loyal and dependable, but by no means prem standard.


....maybe he'll surprise us however!
