Cardiff could yet be forced to sell Forest target Peter Whittingham to the Reds in order to avoid administration.

Cardiff need to raise £1.3 million in order to avoid this fate. They face yet another winding-up order in the High Court on August 11.

This comes after fans thought their beloved club had staved off the prospect of a winding up order in May due to investment from a Far East consortium which pledged to eliminate the club's £2m-plus tax bill.

They also owe Sunderland £1.5m for Michael Chopra and will likely face a league imposed transfer embargo with non-payment.

Cardiff Chief executive Gethin Jenkins told the press: "HMRC has launched a petition in the event we don't pay the PAYE bill. We are confident of settling it in the next couple of days."

Could this mean they will be forced to accept a bid for Peter Whittingham which could under usual circumstances be seen as derisory? As play-off finalists from last season, they will likely want to avoid a 10-point deduction which would see them plunged to the depths of the bottom of th n-power Championship just three days into the new season.
