It was recently rumoured in the Nottingham Evening Post that Chelsea youngster Patrick van Aanholt is hopefully to Nottingham Forest on season long loan. For those that may not be familiar with what is not yet a household name, here is our run-down.

After spending much of last season complaining that Forest did not have a suitable left-back, Forest's interest in van Aanholt does not come of too much of a surprise. Currently plying his trade in the Chelsea revserves, Patrick joined current Championship title holders Newcastle United on loan in January of last year.

Making seven appearances for the Magpies, van Aanholt impressed, and he will surely be looking for more first team football after getting his taste at Newcastle.

He also spent sometime at Coventry City in 2009, however he was recalled due to a shortage of players at Stamford Bridge due to the African Nations' Cup.

van Aanholt certainly has potential, for one - he's playing for Chelsea. He has also represented his country at U19 and U21 level. The Dutch defender has played for the young Holland sides on six seperate occasions, making his mark in each.

He also featured in Chelsea's 5-0 and 7-1 wins over Portsmouth and Aston Villa.

We believe that van Aanhold would be a coup for Forest, especially due to our left-back shortage. However, Billy Davies recently stated that he is looking to add experience to his side. For that reason we believe Davies must have many more experienced players that he has has set his sights on and so failure to sign van Aanhold whilst dissapointing would not be a disaster.

Davies told thisisnottinghamforest:

"Look at Inter in the Champions League final. They used every ounce of their experience to win," he said.

"It was their old heads that saw them through.

"Perhaps that is something we need to consider when we look at our young squad."
