It was FA cup 3rd round time as Hull took on Newcastle for a place in the fourth round. Hull we're knocked out at this stage last year could their do better this time around?. Newcastle made it to the 5th round in last season's FA cup could their get past the 3rd round this time?.
Hull boss Phil Brown: "I am pleased with the performance. It is getting the balance
right between entertaining, winning football and that clean-sheet
mentality.
"In the last two games we have got back to that ugly side of the game."
Newcastle assistant Chris Hughton: "We are probably more aggrieved we didn't come away with the win.
"But they are a very good side and showed they have a good squad. It was a typical cup tie."

Duke was asked to pull off a great save as Carroll got in between Ricketts and Turner. Hull again looking defensively shaky. Hull then had a couple of shots of their own first Geovanni having a shot which bobbled along the ground and into Given's arms then Ricketts having an effort again it was straight at Given. Hull then had the best chance of the game as their hit the wood work, great work by Fagan who beat two Newcastle players crossed the ball in for Cousin who from close range hit the post. There was no more chances in the 1st half and although it could've been 3-1 to Newcastle it ended 0-0.
Hull started the Second half better then their did the 1st having alot of Possession but not having an real chances as the Newcastle defence was on top. Newcastle then had a Claim for a penalty as Duke got into a right mess and looked to have brought Owen down, the referee waved play on. Newcastle Keeper Shay Given was in good form all afternoon, This time he got down to a Cousin Shot on the turn. Ricketts then had another effort at goal but again it was easy for Given to save.
On 70 minutes Hull won a soft free kick, a chance for Geovanni to have a strike at goal, which he did but it was clawed away by Given, the rebound then came to Mcshane who blazed his shot high and wide. Hull went close again on 72 minutes when the ball came off the angle of the post and the bar, Dean Marney sending in the corner and it was Turner who rose highest, The ball then found it's way into Given's hands. Two minutes later and Michael Owen again went close.
It was end to end stuff in the final 15 minutes of the game, Gutierrez finding Carroll who on the turn sent his shot high and wide. Hull had their final chance of the game on 90 minutes, Great chance for Marney, he was picked out by Ricketts but he sent his headed over. The game ended 0-0 although on another day it could've been 3-3.
The Tie now goes to a Replay at St James' Park on Wednesday 14 January

"Both sides endeavoured to win the game, no doubt about it.
"I think given the fact that we are the away side coming here, probably we edged it, certainly on scoring chances.
