Sunderlands record £9million signing Craig Gordon is to undergo an operation this weekend, which will rule him out for the remainder of the season.

Gordon has been suffering with a knee problem for the last fortnight and has had several scans on the injury.

These have proved inconclusive and following a visit to a specialist, the keeper will now undergo an arthroscopy on Saturday, as the club's medical staff look to resolve the problem.

"I'm going to have it done on Saturday and hopefully that can sort out the problem, as it's been a frustrating time for me.

"There's only three weeks of the season left so obviously that's the end of my campaign.

There'll be a period of rest and recovery and then I'll start my rehab so I'm ready for pre-season training.

Won't miss him too much. I'd rather have Fulop starting anyway - he's proved himself to be as good as if not better than Gordon.
