Sunderland have signed Calum Davenport on loan from West Ham. The 26-year-old centre-back has agreed a short-term deal with the Wearsiders after passing a medical today. Boss Ricky Sbragia has made the signing of a defender his priority in January and Davenport is the second one to arrive at the Stadium of Light in the last 24 hours.
Manchester City defender Tal Ben-Haim completed a loan move to Sunderland yesterday, again until the end of the season.

Davenport, a former England Under-21 international, cost the Hammers £3m when he joined them from Tottenham in January 2007.
The Bedford-born player began his career as a trainee with Coventry and established himself in the Sky Blues side before joining Spurs for £1.3m in August 2004.

While at Spurs, he has loan spells with West Ham, Southampton and Norwich before returning to White Hart Lane to make his Barclays Premier League debut against Manchester United.
Davenport made 20 appearances for Spurs before joining West Ham.

He joined Watford on loan last January, with a view to a permanent move but suffered a serious neck injury which forced him out for a number of months.

Davenport returned to competitive action at the start of this season and has made eight appearances for the Hammers this season.
