All the News and Statistics ahead of the visit of Doncaster Rovers to Prenton Park in Coca-Cola League One this Saturday for the final game of the season. For Rovers who secured League One safety last week, it’s all about pride but for Doncaster, a play-off place is still within reach.

Following their recent problems, there probably weren’t many Rovers fans who thought that Rovers would go into this game with nothing riding on it’s outcome but following the 2-1 win at Milton Keynes Dons last Saturday, that is exactly the situation they find themselves in ahead of the final game of a difficult season against Doncaster Rovers on Saturday.

 

For the Rovers from Yorkshire, the game still means much as a win at Prenton Park, paired with the right results elsewhere may see Donny sneak into the play-offs and give them a crack at getting out of League One.  Add to that the return to Prenton Park of the much hated Sean Thornton and the game promises to be a great end of season encounter.

 

Tranmere will go into a game with some confidence for the first time in a while following the last gasp 2-1 win at MK Dons that assured Rovers of League One football next season.  Doncaster though recorded a 1-0 home win over Oldham Athletic last Saturday to leave in with a distant shout of making sixth place and therefore the play-offs.

 

Doncaster have won four of their last six games and have only two of their six on their travels.  Tranmere on the other hand have lost four of their last six matches and have also lost four of their last six matches at Prenton Park.

 

Rovers all-time record against Doncaster does not make good reading either with Tranmere having lost almost twice as many as they’ve won against the Yorkshire side.

 

So far this season though it’s Tranmere who have the bragging rights after a 2-0 triumph at the Earth Stadium back in October thanks to second half goals from Steve Davies and an injury time strike from Steven Jennings.

 

Last season though was a different story altogether as a 0-0 draw at Doncaster was followed up by a bizarre 4-2 win at Prenton Park for Donny in March of last year.  Tranmere found themselves 2-0 down inside the opening six minutes thanks to goals from McIndoe and Blundell before Eugene Dadi equalised after eleven minutes.

 

Twenty Two minutes later though, Dadi turned from hero to villain as he was sent off for an elbowing incident.  Despite being down to ten men, Rovers equalised through Paul Hall just before half-time but in the second half, the extra man made the difference as Ravenhill and Neil Roberts added two more goals to give Doncaster a 4-2 win.

Tranmere Rovers:  Rovers are without Sam Aiston (ankle), Calvin Zola (groin) and goalkeeper John Achterberg (groin) whilst Steven O'Leary is suspended.  Newly appointed caretaker manager Jason McAteer has recovered from an ankle problem to put himself in contention for a start.

 

Doncaster Rovers:  Doncaster are without three broken leg victims in Andy Warrington, Barry Richardson and Nick Fenton.  To add to those injuries, former Tranmere player Jason Price (hernia) and Paul Heffernan (groin) are out of contention whilst Ricky Ravenhill is suspended.
