As Tranmere travel to Vale Park to face Port Vale in League One on New Years Eve, Total Tranmere brings you all the statistics and team news to keep you in the know prior to the game. Rovers will be looking to build on the excellent 4-1 win over Yeovil at Prenton Park last Wednesday.

Port Vale should have Mickey Bell and Michael Cummins available after injury whilst Lee Matthews and Jeff Smith should also be in contention.

Tranmere Rovers will be without goalkeeper John Achterberg (stomach), striker Chris Dagnall (leg) and Delroy Facey (ankle), whilst defender Paul Linwood (knee) is a doubt for the game.  If Linwood fails to be fit, its likely that Ian Goodison will return to the defence whilst Jason McAteer may be rested with Mark Rankine taking his place in midfield.

Both sides go into this game full of confidence after great wins on Wednesday evening.  Vale returned from high-flying Huddersfield Town with all three points after a superb 3-0 win whulst Rovers came from a goal down to beat Yeovil Town 4-1 thanks to a Chris Greenacre a hat-trick.

 

Away from home, Rovers have won two, drawn two and lost two of their last six on their travels and have only lost twice in their last six games.

 

Vale on the other hand have lost four of their last six games and have only won two of their last six games both home and away.

When the two sides met last season, the home side triumphed on both occasions with Port Vale winning 3-1 at Vale Park in December and Rovers gaining revenge at Prenton Park in April.

 

In the game at Vale Park, Port Vale were 2-0 up inside twenty minutes and added a third just after the half-time interval.  Mike Jackson headed a consolation for Rovers as they began to put the Vale defence under pressure but it was too little too late.

 

In the return fixture at Prenton Park, a goal from Paul Hall just before half-time saw Rovers take the three points with a 1-0 win to virtually secure a play-off place.
