After a complete mess-up in the penalty saga against Swansea on Saturday, Rovers boss Brian Little has made it clear who he wants taking penalties.

Tranmere were awarded a penalty on the 39^th minute, but instead of Chris Greenacre taking it, who Little presumed whould, captain Jason McAteer stepped up instead. McAteer missed the resulting penalty and Rovers went on to lose the game.

Little explains : "I thought Chris was going to take it. Jason got hold of the ball and Chris, in his first game, must have thought Jason took them.

"In that respect I had not really spelled it out to him: I just genuinely thought he would take the penalties. So it's down to me, I guess.

"Chris kept out of the way but I will be very surprised if he keeps out of the way again. He is there to score goals and when one is handed to him on a plate he should have a chance at it."

Little also explained why he left out last season's top goalscorer, Iain Hume, and opted for the partnership of Zola and Greenacre upfront.

"There will be a lot of people who criticise me because Iain was not in the side.

"I felt that today was a good game for Calvin and Chris to play together. I knew I had Iain there and could use him for the last half hour. I had spoken to Iain and he understood that. I did not want to play him out wide. We changed to 4-3-3 when he came on and looked reasonably lively.

"I picked a team to try and win the game. We didn't win it so unfortunately I will get criticised."

Does this mean that Rovers could be seeing 4-3-3 more? Perhaps it could be the best thing for Tranmere, with the height of Zola, pace and skill of Hume, and “poaching” of Greenacre it could be Tranmere's best bet at the moment.
